Catalog Description
Psychology is the scientific discipline concerned with the study of the mind and behavior. It is a broad discipline which involves both pure science and practical application of science to matters of everyday living.
The Associate in Arts for Transfer in Psychology (AA-T in Psychology) provides a clearly articulated curriculum for students who wish to transfer to a California State University (CSU). This degree provides the lower division psychology major courses required at many universities while exposing students to the core principles and practices of the psychology field. It can also facilitate transfer to a University of California (UC) campus and other private institutions. The AA-T will enable students to develop a strong foundation in research methods, statistics, and biological aspects of behavior and will offer a variety of elective courses to help students develop their knowledge of human behavior, critical thinking, and practical application of psychological principles to solve real-world problems.
The program is valuable to many careers in business, government, and helping careers such as education, health care, social work, and counseling. Becoming a "psychologist," however, requires graduate level training. Psychologists with graduate degrees and professional certificates have a broad range of employment opportunities including clinical practice, research, and teaching.
