Catalog Description
The General Studies program with an emphasis in STEM allows students to develop knowledge of scientific theories, concepts, and data about both living and non-living systems. The program emphasizes the natural sciences, which examine the physical universe, its life forms, and its natural phenomena. In addition, this emphasis will explore experimental methodology, testing hypotheses, and the power of systematic questioning. Math courses within the program will emphasize the development of mathematical and quantitative reasoning skills. This program offers students a comprehensive education that integrates critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. Subjects will include; mathematics, biological and physical sciences. By engaging in careful educational planning with a counselor, this degree is for students seeking to explore various disciplines in the STEM field before committing to a specific major for transfer to a four-year university. This program is designed for students with specific majors that currently lack predefined pathways. It is particularly suitable for those who do not have the option of pursuing an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT). Alternatively, it accommodates students who may not have transfer plans but desire to obtain a degree in an area of personal interest or enter the workforce with a diverse skill set while also paving the way for career advancement opportunities.
